A Love Paid in Tears
After returning to her biological family, Jane Gray does everything she can for them, only to be set up by her brother to sleep with a stranger. However, by chance, she spends the night with Hans Bale, the CEO of Bale Corp, and soon marries him despite only knowing him for days.
Story Recap
Episode 1
Jane Gray walks into a nightmare. Sent by her brother Gary to deliver a file to Room 1701 at the Cyrus Hotel, she starts feeling unbearably hot and begs to be let go. Instead, a stranger assumes she came to offer herself to him. He demands to know who sent her. She insists her brother only asked her to deliver a file. The confusion spirals fast: she has no idea how she ended up spending the night with a man she has never met. Her one clear thought is dread — if her family hears about this, they will never forgive her.
Episode 2
Morning brings no mercy. Jane's mother scolds her for missing the warm milk she prepares every day, brushing aside the fact that Jane wakes at four each morning to cook for the household. Then Lily spots marks on Jane's neck, and the family pounces, assuming she spent the night with a boyfriend and shaming her for it. Jane tries to defend herself, but no one listens. Cornered, she turns the question back on Gary: who was the man he sent her to deliver that file to yesterday?
Episode 3
Gary is suddenly kind — too kind. He hands Jane a glass of milk and a new delivery errand, then drops the truth: he planned for her to sleep with Mr. Fryer and marry him so the family's business collaboration can reach new heights. When Jane refuses, he plays his ace — Mr. Fryer recorded everything, and the video goes online if she says no. A chilling phone call follows: Mr. Fryer complains that he waited for hours and no one ever showed up. Whatever Gary arranged, it did not go the way he promised.
Episode 4
At Bale Corp, Mrs. Bale Senior arrives with news of her own. Hans, the family's only heir, is allergic to women — yet there was no reaction to the woman from last night. To his grandmother, that means one thing: a great-grandchild is finally possible. She declares they are blessed with a lucky star and is eager to welcome the future matriarch into the family. The woman is identified as Jane Gray, daughter of the Grays. Meanwhile, Jane learns the horrifying truth about Mr. Fryer — a man with a twisted mind who has allegedly killed two young women.
Episode 5
Jane throws the family's logic back at them: if Mr. Fryer is such a good match, why doesn't Lily marry him? The room erupts. Her parents demand an apology, and Lily plays the wounded outsider. Jane reveals she was sent to Room 1701 — Gary insists he said 1101 — and admits she was forced into what happened. No one believes her. Instead, they warn that Mr. Fryer will take his anger out on the family if he learns she slept with someone else. Jane fires back that she will not marry a psychopath.
Episode 6
The family tears into Jane for yelling at Lily, blaming her countryside upbringing and wishing they had never brought her home. Lily performs forgiveness while making sure Jane stays the outsider. Then Jane's world cracks further: her only photo with her grandmother is snatched away and threatened. The cruelty lands hardest when news arrives — Bale Corp has canceled every collaboration with the Gray family and refuses to work with them again. Her father swears he will kill her for it and orders her not to eat. Jane has never been more alone.
