Episode 1

A camping trip goes sideways when Clara Gray stumbles into the wrong tent and slaps a stranger across the face. Instead of rage, the man is almost amused — she's the only person who has ever dared hit him. He presses a card into her hand and tells her to find him at Longdu Tower for compensation. Clara flees, convinced she's just escaped a lunatic. But the man is Sean Mace, and he doesn't forget a face. Something about her refusal to be intimidated has caught his attention, and he's already decided he wants more.

Episode 2

Sean Mace's people report back: the woman who slapped him is Clara Gray, a student at Longcheng University who delivers food to scrape together tuition, her family barely surviving. Meanwhile, Sean's own household is applying pressure of a different kind — his mother has lined up a parade of eligible brides and insists he pick one, invoking his father's hospital bed and his wish to see his son married. Sean dodges the candidates, but the two threads are about to collide. A simple delivery order is walking straight into his world.

Episode 3

The bride selection turns chaotic when Clara Gray arrives with a drink order — and Sean points at her. "I choose her," he announces, stunning the room. His family erupts: she's a delivery girl, a nobody, and they're furious that he'd hand a woman like her the ring that commands every power in Longcheng. Clara recognizes him instantly as the "pervert" from the tent. But Sean isn't joking. Episode 4

The confrontation detonates. Clara's fury isn't about the slap or the tent — it's about her father, who jumped to his death after Sean's business dealings destroyed his company, leaving her mother to wither away from grief. She tells Sean she wishes she'd died fighting him that night. Sean's family wants her punished for striking him and insulting their name, but he overrules them with a single chilling order: he's going to marry her. Episode 5

Back at school, Clara is mocked as the campus's poorest student, the girl who eats two plain buns for lunch. Then a summons from the principal changes everything. Except the man waiting isn't the principal — he tells Clara that from today, the school belongs to her. The funding, the authority, all of it has been handed over in her name. Clara is baffled and suspicious. This is Sean's doing, a gift designed to look like generosity but built to trap her. She wants no part of it, but the school has already accepted.

Episode 6

Sean appears again, smug and unbothered. He announces he's funding her university for the next fifty years, then studies her reaction — she isn't impressed, which only sharpens his interest. He asks what she does want, promising to put anything in the world in front of her. Clara's answer is pure venom: she wants nothing of his, and she calls his money dirty. Sean, unshaken, insists he never touches illegal business and offers to prove it. Clara refuses to even look. Her hatred is the one wall his wealth can't scale.

Episode 7

The real wound finally surfaces. Clara tells Sean exactly what he is: a man who never needs a knife, only a word, and entire families collapse. Two years ago, a minor conflict of interest led him to destroy her father's industry; her father couldn't bear the pressure and jumped, and her mother faded away from grief. Since then Clara has delivered food every day to pay off his debts. She admits he may not even be guilty — but she hates him anyway. Someone close to Sean needles him about the girl who got away. Sean isn't done.

Episode 8

Someone offends Sean and apologizes frantically, and the household braces for his temper — but he waves it off, in too good a mood to punish anyone. He orders betrothal gifts prepared: three sets of gold, six ceremonial items, a grand and public display. His family is baffled by his taste in women, but Sean is decided. At Clara's relatives' house, she hands over her entire monthly wage as living expenses, only to be sneered at — the money is pitiful, they say, and she'd be better off marrying a rich old man.

Episode 9

The betrothal gifts arrive at the family home, and Clara's aunt assumes they're for her own daughter. Clara snaps that she'll never marry Sean, and the aunt turns vicious, mocking her as jealous and ungrateful. When Clara tells her to marry him herself if the gifts are hers, the aunt nearly strikes her, stopped only by the reminder that Clara's face must stay presentable for a certain Old Zhou. Then the truth drops: the family has arranged a match for Clara — and it isn't Zhou's grandson. It's Zhou himself.

Episode 10

Clara's relatives confirm the worst: they've promised her to a seventy-year-old man who's paying eight hundred thousand in betrothal money — and they've already taken it. When she refuses, they remind her she has no right to say no in this house, and a rope is brought out. Three days later, the family celebrates a double wedding, preening for guests and bragging about their newfound fortune. Clara is being sold off to settle their greed — but Sean Mace has already sent his own gifts, and he doesn't lose what he's claimed.
