Love in the Shadows

Episode 1

Sophie Steele is already late, and her friend on the phone won't let her forget it. The interview is with the vice president, or so Sophie thinks—until she's told the president himself is in the building today. There's also a curious rule between them: act like strangers. Racing for the elevator, Sophie calls out for someone to hold the door. It's a small, ordinary panic—the kind that usually ends with nothing more than a flushed face and an apology. But this building belongs to Robert Kensington, and nothing inside it stays ordinary for long.

Episode 2

The elevator ride turns into a collision. A hand on her arm, a quick apology, and suddenly the air is thick with misunderstanding. Sophie assumes the stranger is flirting and shuts it down hard. He fires back that she's sorely mistaken—he wasn't flirting at all. Neither one backs off. It's the kind of first meeting that leaves both people convinced the other is insufferable. Neither of them knows yet how much they're about to see of each other, or how badly this first impression will matter.

Episode 3

Sophie doesn't let the stranger off easy. She tells him that being good-looking doesn't mean every woman wants him, and he answers that history says otherwise. Then she lets it slip: she's here to interview with the president, Robert Kensington. She even praises the man she's never met, calling him far better than the arrogant stranger in front of her. She also insults his cologne—apparently a $475 bottle. Only when staff greet him does the floor drop out: the man she just shredded is Mr. Kensington himself. He's back, and he heard everything.

Episode 4

Sophie is sure she's already failed, but her friend urges her to relax—the interview hasn't even started. Elsewhere, a quieter scheme is underway. Hannah is assured she'll get the assistant job, with promises that soon the current president will be gone and Marcus Carter will take his place. Hannah even asks what that makes her, hinting at a future as the president's wife. When Sophie Steele is introduced as a second candidate, Hannah's welcome is pure venom: "You don't stand a chance." The rivalry is set before either woman says a word to Robert.

Episode 5

Both candidates face Robert Kensington. Hannah leads with credentials and a recommendation from Vice President Marcus Carter—which Robert dryly calls more of a disadvantage. Then Sophie steps up, admitting they've already met and apologizing for overstepping, certain she has no shot. She starts to walk out. Instead, Robert says two words: "You're hired." Hannah is left stunned, and so is Sophie. The recommendation that was supposed to seal Hannah's win just got dismissed, and the woman Marcus wanted kept far away is now the president's personal assistant.

Episode 6

Robert has Nick fill Sophie in on the details and clears the room. Outside, the fallout is immediate. Hannah is furious—actually crying—that Robert hired "some bimbo named Sophie Steele." The name lands like a bomb. Marcus steps away to make a phone call, and the message is blunt: they have a big problem. She's here. Whatever plan Marcus and his mother had been building, Sophie's arrival just tore a hole in it. The question now is who "she" is to them, and how far they'll go to undo this hire.

Episode 7

Marcus can't understand how Sophie got in. His mother tells him not to panic—the main task is unchanged: get Robert and his wife officially divorced. Then the story shifts to Sophie. Rosie arrives to a wedding that's already been called off, the groom gone. But Rosie isn't finished. She tells Sophie to sign, and she'll be his wife—a blind marriage. When Sophie balks, Rosie reveals the truth: Sophie's father owes them a great deal of money. She has no choice. The pressure leaves Sophie cornered, with Rosie holding all the cards.

Episode 8

The plot sharpens. The condition in the contract stays hidden—because the contract was never shown. Marcus's orders are clear: get Robert to fire Sophie, and don't let them develop feelings or fall in love. At the office, Hannah corners Sophie, mocking her for getting close to Mr. Kensington after only two days. Then comes the warning: "I am watching your every move." Sophie asks if that's a threat. Before it can go further, Robert summons Sophie to his office. The pressure is closing in from every side.

Episode 9

Sophie reports to Robert's office, where he asks how her first day is going. She keeps it light—so far, so good, happy to be here. Then he turns the tables: does he make her nervous? Sophie deflects, claiming she doesn't know what he means. He hands her a gift and tells her he wants her to wear it to a restaurant tonight. Sophie studies him, caught off guard, and asks the only question that makes sense: is he asking her on a date? The contract wife and the man she married blind are suddenly standing much closer than either planned.
