Love That Wasn't Meant to Last

Episode 1

Zane Cox has dinner ready and calls Lana West to the table — but she tells him she won't be spending their third anniversary with him. She's going to Ben Zimmer instead, her first love. Zane swallows it, then a call changes everything: Dale Corp has accepted him, and he has seven days to confirm by email and go abroad. Later, alone with his thoughts, he admits the truth — after everything, he was just a passerby in her world. Maybe their time together has simply run out.

Episode 2

Zane comes home exhausted, and Lana orders him to cook her noodles. He does it anyway, gently telling her to eat slowly, promising he'll make them for her whenever she wants. Then Ben Zimmer arrives — and the same request gets a very different answer. When Lana snaps that she's hungry and wants noodles, she's told to go downstairs and buy her own. The contrast lands hard. Zane isn't angry. He's just done being the one who always shows up.

Episode 3

Lana insists she isn't fighting about the anniversary — she only wants to comfort Ben, who's lonely after a breakup. As a friend and an ex, she says, she should be there for him. Then comes the gift: something meant for Ben, with a throwaway item passed to Zane. When he asks about his own present, she admits she forgot and offers money instead. Zane points out they always exchanged gifts on this day. Not anymore, he says. He heads out to drink — something he quit because she asked him to.

Episode 4

Zane's friends tease him for disappearing since he started dating Lana, and they drink freely now that no one's keeping tabs. Lana shows up and finds him drunk, demanding to know why he's drinking when she told him not to. She insists her history with Ben is over and they're just friends now. Zane says he's drinking because he's happy — the sarcasm cuts. She tells him she's giving him a way out, that her patience has limits. He locks her out. She pounds on the door, ordering him to open it.

Episode 5

Zane formally resigns, telling his boss it's for personal reasons. His manager pushes back — the company values him and planned to promote him after the new year — but Zane won't be swayed. He admits he originally took the job to stay close to Lana, and that reason no longer applies. His boss wishes him well. A friend is stunned: Dale Corp, a global top-500 company, his dream employer — but it's overseas. Zane confirms he's going alone. He and Lana are finished. Wherever she was used to being his home, that's over now.

Episode 6

It's someone's birthday, and a cake is being made by hand. There's talk of a surprise gift and a promise to come over. Then the mood shifts: a smile so bright — one Zane never received. He reflects on all the past cold wars, how he used to panic and scramble to fix things, how he'd chase even a single unanswered message. Now he's tired. He's choosing himself for once. He wishes her happiness — but his happiness won't be her anymore.

Episode 7

At a gathering, Lana's friend defends her closeness with Ben, calling Zane petty and controlling. The friend needles him: Lana laughed more with Ben than she ever has with him. Zane tries to explain he's just worried, but he's talked over. Then Lana calls — drunk, demanding he pick her up, ordering him to appear within ten minutes. He doesn't come. She finds him asleep and erupts, asking how he could ignore his girlfriend out alone at night when her friend's boyfriend always calls. She won't let it go.

Episode 8

Lana demands to know what Zane is actually upset about. He turns it around: she used to accuse him of checking up on her, of not trusting her — now he doesn't call at all, and that bothers her too. She defends attending Ben's birthday, citing ten years of friendship. Zane tells her to rest and heads out. She notes that in every past cold war, he was the one who came crawling back — and now that she's reaching out, he acts like she's flattering him. Then a call comes: a teacher has heard Zane is leaving and plans a class reunion send-off.

Episode 9

The class reunion is set at a Western restaurant, and everyone's ready to drink the night away. Lana arrives with Ben Zimmer in tow, apologizing for crashing the gathering and explaining she was bored. The teacher brushes it off, saying it's fine since the whole point is to send Zane off. But the room goes quiet in a different way — the evening is supposed to be about Zane leaving. Instead, it's another night of Lana making it about herself.

Episode 10

At the reunion, Lana tells Zane she only brought Ben along casually and he shouldn't overthink it — if he minds, she won't bring him next time. She suggests they go home together after dinner. He declines, telling her to leave with Ben since they drove. Ben helps himself to food and Lana serves him. The teacher toasts Zane, recalling he was once the star student whose dream was a top-500 company abroad — and how he suddenly chose to stay for a small local firm. Zane calls it youthful foolishness. Now, at last, he's leaving.

If you like watching a man quietly reclaim his life while everyone around him keeps missing the point, this one's worth hitting play on.
