May We Never Meet Again

Episode 1

Esme Quinn has spent three years married to Luze, a wealthy businessman who believes she drugged him into a one-night stand that forced their marriage. She loves him and cares for him endlessly, but he keeps her at arm's length behind what feels like an invisible wall.

Worse, there's Bai Xiaoxiao—the woman Luze treats as his savior, the one everyone says should have been Mrs. Lu. Esme has learned to live in her shadow, too afraid even to complain about the betrayal.

When Esme asks to work, Luze refuses, reminding her that the Lu family doesn't need a wife in the public eye. He also tells her to keep taking her pills. Then a news report surfaces: a gifted violinist vanished in a car accident three years ago, and a global search is underway.

Episode 2

Esme's world tilts when her father collapses—her brother has been dragged into a case that could mean ten years, and the shock sends her father into a brain hemorrhage. Desperate, she calls Luze again and again, but he's busy with Bai Xiaoxiao.

She learns the story everyone repeats: years ago, when Luze was unconscious, Bai Xiaoxiao played violin for him until he woke. That's why he cherishes her. Esme realizes the dream she keeps having—the one where she's the violinist—was never hers at all. She was only envious.

When she asks his secretary for her father's medical fees, she's told to file a request for the CEO's signature—just like every piece of jewelry she wears. Luze will spend millions on fireworks for his mistress but won't cover her father's bills. Esme finally sells her wedding ring and declares she wants a divorce.

Episode 3

Luze comes home to find Esme packing. The housekeeper notes that she's been at it nonstop since her father's crisis—and that Luze never once asked about it. He brushes it off, saying he's already handled the secretary and arranged a medical team.

But Esme has seen the fireworks. She tells him plainly: "Let's divorce." Luze scoffs. He points out she lives in a 2,000-square-meter villa, that she's Mrs. Lu, and asks what she could possibly be unhappy about.

She fires back: every piece of jewelry must be registered with his secretary, every cent she spends requires an application, she can't even afford a taxi. Taking his monthly check feels like payment for a transaction. She's done pretending. Luze tells her to let go of him—but she's already let go.

Episode 4

Luze grabs Esme and refuses to release her, certain her sudden rebellion is all about Bai Xiaoxiao. He throws the old accusation at her again—that she drugged him, that because of her he couldn't save Bai Xiaoxiao, whose legs were lost, and that he was forced to marry her.

Esme reminds him she hasn't been taking her pills and could get pregnant. Luze says he'll arrange the best medical team for her father and that she can ask him for money. He even offers to send the secretary away and let her keep the jewelry.

But his concessions never include Bai Xiaoxiao. He wants Esme sealed inside the title of Mrs. Lu, accommodating his mistress forever. When Bai Xiaoxiao calls him, complaining her legs ache and wishing he were beside her, Esme sees exactly where his heart is.

Episode 5

Esme is gone. She left the villa on foot the night before, not even calling for a driver, and the staff assumed Luze knew. All she left behind is a small package.

Luze's reaction is cold and certain: she doesn't know about the prenuptial agreement—divorce means she gets nothing. She'll come back.

The housekeeper serves him coffee, but it's wrong; Esme always made it herself, following a complicated process. Luze snaps that she's getting bolder by the day, refusing even to make his coffee out of spite. He's sure she's bluffing. But Esme has already decided she won't live as his neglected wife any longer, and she isn't coming back on his terms.

Episode 6

Luze tells his people to let Esme "make a scene"—she's been Mrs. Lu too long to survive on her own, and she'll crawl back once she's tired. Then he notices the newspaper. Esme saw it before she left.

He orders the news suppressed and demands to know where she sold her wedding ring. Meanwhile, Bai Xiaoxiao calls—she's fallen from her wheelchair and wants him there. His staff dismiss her as a lame, shabby woman who can't threaten anyone's position.

Esme, though, is done relying on anyone. Her father needs long-term treatment costing 150,000 a month. She plans to sell the family house and stand on her own. Her family tells her the news is out: the Lu Group's CEO has hired an overseas orthopedic team for his girlfriend.

Episode 7

Esme meets Bai Xiaoxiao face to face, and Bai Xiaoxiao drops the mask. She claims they've met before—years ago—and that if Esme dies, Luze will believe Bai Xiaoxiao is his savior. She all but admits she caused Esme's accident, and that everything should have been hers.

Bai Xiaoxiao insists Luze only married Esme for his reputation, that she and Luze truly love each other, and begs Esme to step aside. Esme doesn't flinch: a woman who can't get a proper name is the man's problem, not hers. She calls Bai Xiaoxiao out for her arrogance—then leaves to meet the agent who's appraising the family house. Moments later, a call: her stepmother and Bai Xiaoxiao are fighting.

Episode 8

At the hospital, Esme's stepmother tears into Bai Xiaoxiao, accusing her of stealing Esme's husband and cursing Esme's father in his sickroom. Bai Xiaoxiao's arm is injured on top of her bad legs, and her people threaten to make someone pay.

Luze arrives and finds himself caught between his wife and his mistress. Bai Xiaoxiao plays the victim, telling him that if he leaves her, no one will remember or love him. Esme watches him choose—he carries Bai Xiaoxiao off for treatment, leaving his own wife behind.

Onlookers sneer that a pretty wife is no match for a mistress, and that Luze will surely divorce Esme. Esme is left standing alone, humiliated in front of everyone.

Episode 9

A man recognizes Esme—it's Ji Tang, her childhood friend, now a doctor and her father's physician. She slowly remembers him. He tells her she went abroad with her mother as a child, and after a car accident that killed her mother, she lost most of her memories before age five.

Meanwhile, Luze arranges for Bai Xiaoxiao to meet the famous violinist Professor Wei, hoping to make her his disciple. But when the professor mentions the violin music that once woke Luze from his coma, Bai Xiaoxiao reacts strangely, as if she doesn't remember it at all. Luze notices.

Doubt creeps in. He quietly orders an investigation into Bai Xiaoxiao's records from the time he was hospitalized abroad—right as Esme reconnects with the one person who might finally tell her the truth.

Episode 10

Luze corners Esme and orders her home, promising to forget everything—including her stepmother hurting Bai Xiaoxiao—if she returns and acts like nothing happened. Esme refuses. She won't be his nanny, his pet, or share a husband. He warns his patience is limited.

Esme pushes forward anyway. She plans to sell the house for her father's treatment and find a job. But Luze quietly has the house bought out and blocks her job prospects—one rejection after another. An offer on the house comes in at only a fraction of its value, and the family is desperate.

Ji Tang urges Esme to do what she truly wants. Her father tells her not to lose her freedom for him. Then a restaurant calls—they want to hire her.
