Episode 1

The Rain Ceremony is about to begin, and the Empress, Sophie Shaw, is running late. Since giving birth, her weight has ballooned, and the palace whispers about it. When she finally appears, the court is shocked by how much she has changed. The Emperor has long avoided her chambers. Their son, too, seems ashamed to stand beside her. Tara Cox, the favored concubine, steps in smoothly to take Sophie's place at the altar — a public humiliation dressed up as protocol. Sophie is left scrambling, and something goes wrong at the ceremony. The cracks in her marriage and her standing are now visible to everyone.

Episode 2

At the ceremony, Tara Cox seizes her moment. When Sophie is accused of causing a disturbance, Tara plays the wronged sister — suggesting Sophie harmed herself to frame her. The court murmurs that the Empress is making a scene, that an ugly woman only causes more trouble. The Emperor orders Sophie dragged away. Then Tara drops her mask. She makes it clear she has the Emperor's favor and the Empress Dowager's backing, and no one will dare touch her. She has waited three years beneath a woman she considers beneath her. What happens next at the ceremony is swift — and final.

Episode 3

Sophie wakes somewhere strange. A modern medical graduate has transmigrated into her body — into a two-hundred-pound empress everyone believes is dead. The maid is terrified, convinced she's seen a ghost, until she notices a shadow and realizes this is no spirit. The new Sophie quickly takes stock: she has inherited this body, and with it, a debt. She vows to avenge the woman whose life was taken. When Tara Cox comes to gloat and beg forgiveness, Sophie doesn't play along. Episode 4

Sophie stops taking abuse. When a servant disrespects her, she demands the proper bow and orders punishment by palace rules. The maid threatens her with a gruesome death, but Sophie doesn't flinch — she reminds everyone that as long as the Emperor hasn't deposed her, she is still Empress. The beatings land. Sophie warns that anyone who dares strike above their station risks their entire family. She makes an enemy of Tara Cox's circle and promises to bury them. The old Sophie would have endured in silence. This one swings first and asks questions later.

Episode 5

The Emperor arrives to find Tara Cox crying that the Empress nearly beat her to death. Tara spins a tale of sisterly concern and painted-on bruises. Sophie sees straight through it and calls her a liar who twists every story. Then she turns on her own son, who has been parroting that his mother is ugly and shameful. She reminds him who carried him and raised him. The Emperor tries to intervene and gets hit for his trouble. Furious, he declares the Empress defiant and orders her thrown into the cold palace.

Episode 6

The cold palace is a wreck, and Tara Cox has arranged for moldy steamed buns to be delivered. Sophie isn't worried. A strange courier arrives with a delivery — fine wool blankets and supplies that shouldn't exist in this world. Her maid marvels at how soft they are, and the two start settling in. Meanwhile, Tara and her allies plot: Sophie can't be killed yet, because The Emperor's Grandfather dotes on her, and his return is coming. Better to make him despise her first — then finishing her off will be easy.

Episode 7

With supplies sorted, Sophie refuses to suffer. Her maid asks who the mysterious deliveryman was; Sophie calls him a time-space courier and moves on. She's confident The Emperor's Grandfather won't leave her rotting in the cold palace — once he returns from his travels, she'll be free. But she also knows she can't face him like this. So she sets a goal: lose a hundred pounds in a month. Tara's camp, unaware, assumes the moldy food and damp bedding will do their work for them, while they wait for The Emperor's Grandfather's return to turn him against her.

Episode 8

The Emperor's Grandfather returns and is welcomed with a banquet. He immediately asks why the Empress isn't present. Told she's in the cold palace, he's furious — reminding the Emperor of the promise he made to General Shen. Tara Cox steps in with a polished story: Sophie grew cold and violent after childbirth, neglected palace duties, appeared disheveled at the Rain Ceremony, faked a suicide, and then wounded the Emperor's face. The Emperor's Grandfather refuses to believe it. He says he watched Sophie grow up and knows her character — she could never do such things.

Episode 9

The Emperor's Grandfather demands to see Sophie and judge for himself. The Emperor claims the wound on his face proves everything, but The Emperor's Grandfather isn't buying it — he suspects his grandson fears what questioning might reveal. When Sophie is summoned, the maid gasps: she has actually lost the weight. Sophie explains her approach plainly — postpartum recovery neglected, depression, and overeating caused the weight gain; treating it properly works. But her maid worries it won't matter if the Emperor never returns. Then word comes: The Emperor's Grandfather summons her. She can leave the cold palace.

Episode 10

Sophie appears transformed, and the court is stunned. The Emperor's Grandfather greets her warmly, recalling he left when her son was a newborn. But the son credits Tara Cox for raising him, claiming his mother did nothing but eat and sleep — even that Tara saved him from a fever while Sophie never came. The Emperor backs the story, and ministers call Sophie unfit to be a mother or Empress, urging her removal. Tara smirks that Sophie must be hiding her ugly face. Then Sophie walks in and asks who says she wouldn't dare come.
