Episode 1

Ruth Nash has given three years to being the perfect wife—cooking, hosting, keeping a light on for Ian Ford while he builds his legal career. Episode 9

A child's blunt question—do you like her?—hangs in the air, and Ian's silence says enough. At a restaurant, staff recall how Ian used to order a whole table of Jiang's favorite dishes and sit alone until closing after she went abroad. Now they assume the two will finally marry. But Ruth notices the small betrayals: Ian orders dishes she's allergic to, and when she points out he always cooks what she can't eat because he likes it, the reply cuts deep—he never once cared what she liked.

Episode 10

At the hospital, Jiang suffers a minor burn on her fingertip, and Ian treats it like a catastrophe—a pianist's hands must never be damaged. He stays by her bed, changes her dressings, feeds her, kisses her hand. Nurses marvel at the devoted couple. In another room, Ruth's burns are far worse, and no one visits—not even a message from Ian. Lying there, she finally says it out loud: she has let go. However much Ian loves someone else, it no longer has anything to do with her.
